The programme is under the political leadership of First Lady, Hon. Janet Museveni, Minister for Karamoja, who is assisted by Hon. Barbra Nekesa Oundo, Minister of State for Karamoja.

This focus came in direct response to the various challenges faced by the Karamoja  sub-region, North East Uganda. As part of the overall project to develop the region, a number of specific initiatives have been implemented including:

  • Karamoja Livelihood Improvement Programme (KALIP)
  • Karamoja Integrated Disarmament and Development Programme (KIDDP)

Achievements for the Financial Year 2011/12

Karamoja

(i) Five Valley tanks constructed in Napak parishes.

(ii) Five domestic Rain Water Haverst (RWH) tanks in constructed in Naduget, Manyatta.

(iii) Five perennial spring water sources protected.

(iv) Six boreholes renovated by ADRA in Nakapiripirit

(v) Conference room/office furniture for regional office procured.

(vi) One hundred (100) youth trained in the use of the hydra form technology at Lolengedwat Nakapiripirit, Acerer Moroto district and Napak

(vii) 10 tractors procured

(viii)7,000 acres of land ploughed for selected women groups in Karamoja sub region.

(ix) 190 cows procured and distributed for community empowerment to youth and women groups in Kaabong parishes

(x) Communities in Kaabong, Napak and Kotido Mobilised and sensitized in development issues.

(xi) Four housing units built for 4 health workers at Morulinga HCII, Matany Sub county Napak district using the hydra form technology.

(xii) Four housing units for 16 teachers and a semi-detached house for the head teacher and deputy head teachers constructed at Kalotom primary school Ngoleriet Sub county, Napak District

(xiii)80,000 cattle branded by LR Group in Kaabong and Kotido districts.

(xiv) 200 Ox-ploughs procured and distributed to all districts in Karamoja as follows; 32 distributed to Kabong, Napak, Moroto, Kotido, Abim, Nakapiripirit and Amudat each received 20.
